Lots of people are ditching the pots and pans by cooking just about any meal in foil packs these days. You really can make breakfast, lunch, dinner, or desserts all neatly packed in foil and we found a really helpful walk-through to show you how.
The first piece of advice is to use heavy-duty foil. It makes a world of difference and won’t tear off into little pieces in your food. If you only have standard foil, go ahead and double it up.
Spray the food side of the foil to keep it from sticking. Just lightly is enough and you’re good to go.
Be sure to put the meat on the bottom because it will need more heat to cook through. You should add some high water content veggies to keep it humid inside the pack. Tomatoes would do just fine.
Carrots and potatoes are dense so either cut them up very small and uniform or precook them before adding them to the packs.
You can flip the packs but just make sure they are well sealed. When you open them be very careful. Steam burns are not fun and we don’t want you to find that out for yourself.
You can make a Flat Pack or a Tent Pack which is the difference in where you place the food and how you fold it. There will be a link at the end of this post that will show you the difference between the two styles.
Your packs can contain burgers and veggies, or sausage and eggs with hashbrowns. There is a recipe for Pineapple Upside Down Donut Cake or Thanksgiving Dinner – pretty much anything you can cook at home can be adapted to foil packs.
